On May 15, 2010, I can happily say that I graduated with honors from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. This was a huge day for me, my family, and for the long road to recovery that we have been traveling on since July of 2004.
I still remember the day that my college swim coaches came to visit me after I was released from the hospital, and right after they left, I made the final decision that I was going to pursue my dreams of going to college and swimming on the team.
I swam on the team during my freshman year, I competed in the Hawaii Ironman in my junior year, and last week I graduated from college. Those were the three goals that I had planned for myself after I finished up high school, and now, those goals are finally accomplished.
I now have new dreams that I have set for myself, but instead of looking towards tomorrow, I plan on looking only at the present, and living each and every second to its fullest potential.
We have come a long way over the past few years and I’m so thankful for all the support and encouragement that we have received throughout this entire journey.
What I have learned from all these experiences, is this – Never give up on your dreams or what you believe in.
To everyone who has helped me during my journey back to life, Thank You for believing in me.
